Thought I hit the Jackpot!

I thought I finally found my car!
A Red 2002 esprit for $44000 US!
until I saw the mileage-54k!
I have never heard of a esprit driven that much! Man that is crazy.
also had 2 minor fender benders. What the hell was this guy doing. Dealer is clueless, Doesnt understand why this is a lot of miles for this type car.
What do you guys think about a esprit with that many miles on it?

Probaly depends on service history my S4s has done 58k and no major engine work (apart from 2 turbos and 2nd gear gone array) anyway what i mean is it depends on all sorts of factors maybe there is someone local who owns an Esprit who would go with you to give it a cursery 'look over' then get a vehicle engineers report. My mates S4 has done over 70k and he really has had no major problems at all,he uses the car every day all weathers and it never misses a beat ,but he does keep it regularly serviced and fixes anything that needs doing (including some that dont! )So i wouldnt reject purely on the amount of miles the car has covered.

I know of several Esprit that are in fair condition with an excess of 100K miles. But to date they have all been 4 cyl models.
One person who will know about high mileage V8 Esprit's is Gordin Davis aka Gordonie who lives in the LA area in California. He drives his Esprit all over the USA, many times putting on several K miles in less than a month. He is on the turbo list a lot. He could probably shed some light on high mileage Esprit's. email him at gordonie@earthlink.net since he has published his address in a public forum I don't think he will mind if you email him.

Thanks for the info,
I contacted Gordonie and he called me actually , a wealth of info.
I decided to pass on this puppy and fork over more cash for one that is has less mileage and better cond. too much of a gamble-and though I am from Las Vegas, thought I will be better off with a car that would hold its value better instead of risking it on a car that probably has had some abuse.

Mine has over 58K miles on it... crazy? Certainly not... I bought it with the intention of enjoying it... somehow sitting the in garage looking pretty isn't much enjoyment for me, and I'll continue to drive as much as I have time for. People who buy garage queens are ok I guess but exactly what it the point?

I'm with kmaier on this. The less you use these cars, the more that seems to go wrong with them. Driven daily and there's less trouble. I thought low mileage neurosis was a British disease! Something to do with living on an island. High mileage simply means fifth gear and the wheel bearings have seen a lot of action with all the other bits not being used any more than a low mileage car. (It also means it has been reliable enough to be used so much) You probably still did the right thing though. The car you buy has to be the one you want or you will always kick yourself every time anything goes wrong.

I AGREE... Drive it! Let it sit and get out the check book. My car, and by previouse reads on this forum I could say 'other cars', are better on longer trips and not just runs up to the store. I do the quickie runs, but the car really likes the long country drives!
