I reckon me fookin O/S Cat has fallen apart now

I noticed this morning on my way to work that she's started feeling real gutless above 5,000 rpm Then this evening it's started to get worse, followed by feeling major strangled above 3,000 rpm, which then turned into 'not good' sounding whooshy noises from one of the turbo's above about 2,000rpm

My 1st thoughts were; Air Leak, blocked zorst or buggered turbo.

I've had a quick scout round her tonight in the pitch black and have found at idle that the N/S tail pipe pumps nicely whereas there is barely anything coming out of the O/S {at what does is red hot}. If you then raise the revs on her then the N/S gas flow increases and the O/S actually gets even less :p

Oh well, gotta wait till tomorrow morn to get me hands dirty.

Yep, i had me one of them some time back. If you've got recent mot then just refit it once you've cleaned it out. It should not throw a CEL..

If you've not already seen, in the "news" section on LEW - hangar111 are have a hi-flow metal replacement cat that undercuts the lotus prices significantly.

PUK also have replacements cheaper than lotus, but you're paying more for shinyness...

yeah, obviously I've stuffed the thing back on for now - no CEL

I'm a bit undecided about what to do about it really, I've got till next year sometime for the MOT so no real rush.

I'm tempted to look around for some pipes {no cat} that can just go in there, then refit them come MOT time and tell them to test 'that side'

I'm not overly keen on replacing it with another Lotus unit as it was replaced only 2 years and less than 10,000 miles ago.

So anything I do go for needs to have good flow, not fall to bits and actually fit - tall order me finks

Hi Colin,
what do you think about a pair of these:

They are made of stainless steel and have a high flow metal cat inside. Gives way better flow than the original brick-like-ceramic-cats.

Well to answer your question marcus I'm prolly about to order a pair - having run it for a day or 2 now with one cat empty she quite clearly isn't right, it's difficult to put a finger on but there's a flat spot in the power in the 4,000 - 5,000 rpm mark, higher up the revs she's just lacking

I'm convinced the car/engine/ecu are just confused because one of the turbos is spooling up faster than the other.
