Mileage question - possible purchase..
Discussion
Hello all,
Would you say a 1990 SE with full service history (just had new cambelt, etc - so appears to be C service) with 68000 miles on the clock is worth a look at £10995.
I'm only going to be doing aroung 5000 miles a year in it as a 'Sunday' car.
Help me make up my mind between an Esprit and a TVR Chimaera!
Cheers

Oh yea, one more thing. If I do buy this car and keep it for say 1 to 2 years then it will be on about 80,000 miles (possible more). When I come to re-sell it on this mileage do you think I'd have a problem finding a buyer?
Also does anyone live in the Hertfordshire/North London area with a good SE, so that I can see a good one to base all the other cars I'll view on.
Cheers guys.

I have seen these cars go +100K miles but at those miles they have seen much better days.
Oh they still work just very tired.
As the cars age one will see more SE's with higher mileages. 4 years ago the average miles when used SE's were sold they usually had 20-30K miles on them. Now the average miles on ones I have seen for sale is 40-50 something. Still a few out there with lower miles at a premium price.
On older cars issues seem to be turbos and the rubber bits, seals, gaskets that need refreshing. Check to see that service on valve adjustments have been done.
I don't know what the price on +80K miles SE's would be. I personally wouldn't buy one with that many miles on it. But that is just me as I have not bought any type of car with over 30K miles.
Good luck,
Calvin

I would say more towards the 9k bracket with that mileage.
With regard to having a look at one locally - I'd drop the request on the 'Lotus Esprit Forum'. I'm sure there's a couple of guys local to you on the forum that would be more than happy to help.
