Owning and working on a Lotus requires tenacity, dedication, and patience. Most of us who have a Lotus and are the most rabid of owners have a certain kind of personality. That is why most of us get along so well. We understand each other. Do not let the car beat you, you must persevere, figure things out and be the master. I would not hesitate to hire most fellow owners as they have this overwhelming need to succeed or be number one. So get back at, remove and repair the manifold. Take as many breaks as you want but do not give up.

Tony's skills and tools rivals a professional mechanics shop and he has a lift. I am still convinced that a person with rudimentary skills and tools can do it.

Try pulling an exhaust manifold on a V12 XJS Jag!
Take Calvin's advice, take your time! If you get a nut that doesn't want to come off, use some heat. The last thing you want to do is snap a stud as steel studs in aluminium heads can be your worst nightmare! If you should snap one and given the workspace... good luck!
If you should decide to have a mechanic do this, find someone who is very good. We took in a job for a customer where previous shop really botched and butchered the job.
After they did their damage, to do a simple gasket change, they quoted the customer $1200. to fix it. We did it costing the customer $800. and they COMPLAINED!!!! No good deed goes unpunished!

Took get my exhaust manifold off I took the head off. I was doing a headgasket so it was much easier this way. The retaining clips were not much fun and a few nuts were frozen but it worked out ok.
