A friend of mine is looking to buy one of the last esprit,i think he is happy with the deal he has done"dont ask,as i dont know"What he wants to know is how will the gt3 compare to my 996 C2,anyone driven both?.To be honest with you guys,i would'nt know where to start.Any info on running costs, handling etc.. would be very much appreciated. My opinion is he should forget the esprit and go for a GT3 of the german variety, but im sure i'm in the wrong place to express these kinds of opinions, anyway thanks guys for your time.

I don't know what it is about the Porsche marquee, they all look alike. Unless you truely know what the different vents mean on the cars they are almost identical. I am at least happy they went back to the circle lights. I think that you will find that all on this forum will choose the Esprit over the porsche.

Second that.....
Of course i can accept you guys would say that and to be fair not altogether wrong about the cars looking all the same, but that is more to do with brand recognition, sad i know but eveyones at it.Anyway what i really wanted to know is more about running costs i.e major service, mpg, handling,is it just a weekend drive or can it be used on a daily basis? My mates going for a drive on sat,any info you guys could provide would be great.Ps the day lotus makes a good all rounder like the 911 i will be more than happy to change as i have always been a fan of lotus cars in general.
I chose a lotus over a porsche.
With the german car you get something that is mass produced, and as a result will *probably* cost less to run and be less likely to break down. BUT the very fact that it is mass produced means you see them everywhere. Also, i think its unfortunate but a lot of 911 buyers are looking for 'status' rather than the driving experience. Don't think you get this much with a lotus.
BTW you'll need a 996 GT3 or turbo to go quicker than an esprit v8. Bog std c2 will be slower.
If you find running costs for a daily driven 911 over say 50k miles then it would be worth comparing with my lotus experiences.

i have to agree here having driven both. the V8 is very very quick and handles very will. But make no mistake one will be expensive to run. Answers on a self addressed envelope please.
