86 Esprit headlights pods not opening
Discussion
When I had this problem on my '89, I had to replace the light switch in the binnacle. I didn't remove the binnacle as the surround of the switch had already crumbled off so I could remove the whole switch from the front.
Do the lights come up if you flash them from the stalk? If so, it is the switch.

'86,
Your problem is most likely in the switch. I had the same problem, took the switch apart, cleaned the blades, flipped one with a worn contact, worked for awhile. To get the switch out is easy, remove the phillips screw holding the side panel in, and gently slide it out toward you. Yours may just be a case of burned contacts. Pop the switch out and very carefully
pry it apart. There are springs and balls in there and the last thing you need is for them to go flying! Clean the contacts with emery cloth and reassemble the switch. This is not a guaranty the lights will work, but if they do, this is your problem. I would suggest getting a new switch to install, but as mine failed, I found raising the pods with the flash and flipping the headlamp switch on to lights will keep them up and working.
Off subject... Jim, I hope your return from LOG was a good one. Calvin, yourself and I met at the petrol station across the street from the Abbey that Monday morning and took the photos... I have the black G Esprit with the wood dash inlays and the only Esprit not to have the six holes in the bonnet lovures!
Cheers,
Robert
