Discussion
Fookin pile of handbuilt british fookin junk

Now, I wound my wing mirror all the way down on the little buttony thingy {i was trying to look at my rear wheel - best not ask ;)} then when I tried to wind it up, it said No :(
I can hear the little motor thing whirring - but he no go :( It sounds almost like there's a worm drive in there that's got stripped or sommit.
So
I'm gonna have to pull it to bits - I've looked in the service manual, which has a picture of the wing mirror in it .... period .... fanx Lotus :p:p:p
Help? Please? Anyone? :)

If you can possibly manage to tilt the mirror upwards... there is a little plastic slide/catch the holds the mirror onto the motorized pivot/mount. Slide the catch(it will only go one way) with a very small screwdriver and the mirror should be loose. You just need to deal with the heater wires. Then you can dissect the motorized portion without chipping the mirror.
For a replacement you could just sneak up on a McClaren F1 (they use them too) and liberate whatever parts you may need. Alternatively you could order replacement bits for a Citroen CX as I believe that is the original donor.
Us poor people just use a bit of sticky tape to hold the mirror in the desired position. This method does require periodic renewal of the tape when you wish to adjust position however.
Hopefully your run of luck turns for the better soon.

The only thing that bother's me about replacing it is that I'm gonna have to spray it also, but 190EUR seems a bargain
I'm gonna have a go at Arium suggestions first see how far that gets me, it's just this bit ...

if you do any good in getting a motor let me know because i need one too for the passenger side. never really bothered me much tho because i dont ever adjust it. would be nice to have it working though.
p.s: you can use your existing wing mirror casing/housing i think so no need to re spray. keep the other as a spare.

Sounds like the motor is fine... as for the "slide" previously noted, this thing is not a hard bit to fab up if it is indeed broken. However, I have seen them pop off track so to speak. At any rate, take the thing apart and give it good going over, you might be surprised at the thing.... really...
