How much play is in your steering??

After new rack upper and lower universal jonts mine has gone from about 40mm (I kid you not)to about 2-3 mm is this normal ?? I still think the car feels a little light at speed I had a laser alignment completed

On my '84 Turbo Esprit, no play at all. It is like a go-kart. The rack has never been touched; at least not in the 14 years I've owned the car.
