I am looking to possibly add 1 (or more) intercooler(s) to my car for obvious reasons. I have had marginal luck searching the web for places that can help me to that end. Might any of you guys have a resource that you could share with me? I have seen the H2O/air setup at hybinette.com, and am not convinced that is what I want...am I wrong?

I am also looking into other mods so feel free to provide a resource for any mod, not just on the IC setup. Thanks in advance!

There is a reason why Lotus and a few others choose the water/air intercoolers rather than air/air intercoolers. First look at where there intercoolers must be installed to make it work, in between the turbo and intake to cool preassurized air. On water/air intercoolers the path from the turbo to intake in very short. Although it has more working parts like the water pump, radiator, water lines. With air/air intercoolers the path from the turbo winds back and forth along a passive air radiator which has to be placed somewhere where the airflow can get to it to work. So the first question in a Lotus is where to place such a large passive radiator. Second you will end up with a very long pathway from the turbo to the intake manifold and it will take time for this large pathway to pressurize boost from the turbo compressor wheel and that will translate into turbo lag. Johan's Lotus will just pop off with very little lag unlike other cars with very large air/air riggs and they can't understand why. Oh after spool up they may have great dyno HP numbers, but it will be all over by then as his car is gone down the road, he is eating Johan's dust and the guy is rubbing his rear from being spanked so hard. Johan also has twin nitrous bottles in his car for added kick. I have seen his car in person and it is indeed the fastest Esprit I have ever seen.

Suggest if you are in the Uk then MIke Haines Racing.
To see a car they are currently preparing go to
www.lotusespritworld.co.uk/EOwners/mikeSek.html

Getting more power from the esprit twin turbo v8 is not too hard - in fact a 'race' ecu would give you over 400 bhp. Question is, would your transmission hold up? Mike S is running the stock renault transmission with the addition of a cooler. Johan broke his at bonneville and is working now on a g50 conversion.

If you have not already joined, the uk yahoo esprit group is also a good idea.

I'm in the development process of twin water/air coolers for my 2001 esprit that can be duplicated if needed. Looks like I have to re-locate the "water overflow tank" on the right side behind the engine. Also Just ordered Aurora race rosejoints (uniball) for the billet alu rear suspension arms in the making (also can be duplicated.) Just yesterday took the esprit all apart, looks like a mess but it's a long winter here in Finland so we will have time to do all the fabricating. If there is any interest in items like there, sent e-mail to: ekotiimi@dlc.fi and we can see what we can do... Michael
