While working on the car I noticed that the little, hard plastic, red hose that connects to the wast gates was not connected to the engine plenum. I reconnected it and now I don't hear the whine I've heard when the turbos spin. I am relatively new to this car, so it is possible it was always disconnected and the whine shouldn't be there. But does that make sense? If that hose is disconnected, wouldn't it be like having the throttle closed (no positive pressure) and open the waste gate or do I have this backwards? Could I have damaged something with that disconnected the last 500 miles?

Thanks,

Cliff

Cliff,
Seems you have a V8 ... am I right ?

JFYI, its NOT a vacuum line ... Its a boost line that controls the wastegate capsules ! No vacuum, only positive pressure is fed through this lines !

Please reattach your wastegate actuator lines ASAP !!! Please also do a ECU-reset and learn the engine from new.

What you were doing is driving without boost control and constantly overboosting your engine ...

Very scary, indeed !

Thanks Marcus,

Yes, it is a V8 and yes it seems I was always overboosting since I bought it a few months ago so did not really know the difference until I reattached. Interestingly the overboost light never came on. Car always idled a bit odd but I am now going to pull the plugs per mechanic's suggestion and inspect. I am hoping I just cracked a plug rather than did any major damage.

Crossing my fingers...
