I have a quick 'n dirty way to replace your old windshield wiper. (Note: I have a '99 V8. Don't know if this applies to the 4-bangers.)

Go to Auto-Zone and buy an ANCO 26" wiper re-fill (i.e, just the rubber blade, not the metal assembly). It's not a perfect fit: it's about an inch too long, and it's a millimeter or two too wide, but we'll fix this.

Do the following:

1. Remove the old blade. (Just the rubber blade, not the entire assembly.)
2. Take out the two metal slats embedded in the rubber of the new blade.
3. Clip 1" off one end of the new blade. (This makes the blade shorter. I'm pretty sure.)
4. Take out the two metal slats from the old blade and put them in the new blade. (This makes the blade thinner.)
5. Slip the new blade into the assembly. It'll be tight, but it'll fit.
