Hi,
I own a "40th anniversary" Esprit Turbo 88 with 15" wheels. I would like to upgrade it with 16" or 17". Lotus doesn't recommend any other wheel but I wonder if someone did it on a Turbo Esprit 88 (I've seen one with S4 wheels-or similar- on Esprit's world site). Could you help me? if yes, please give me the reference of the wheels.
Many thanks in advance,
Thierry

You have to match the offset of the rear wheels when buying new ones or get spacers made to use S4 and later wheels. You also may have to machine out the center from 58mm to I think 62 or 63mm.

It is only the front rims from the S4/ GT3 that needs machining of the centre (to 60,1 mm). The rear ones fits directly.

The rears wheels of newer Esprit's will directly fit on the 89 and newer models with out board brakes, but because of the the older type of rear hubs on 88's and older models with inboard brakes and Citroen tranny's you will notice a deeper offset and custom spacer will have to be fabricated to bring the SE/S4/S4s/V8 wheel further out so they will have clearance they need to fit.

As far as I understand, there is no existing wheel that fit for the front without reworking. For rear wheels, any other lotus wheel is OK.
Many thanks for your answer!

For the 88's watch the offset. Newer SE/S4/S4s/V8 wheels are not deep dished like the 88's. The wheels will rub without spacers.
