freescan says code 26A
i replaced the 4 items involved with the "A", but
the CEL comes on 20 sec after start, just idling.
the manual says to use the tech 1 tool to ground the diagnostic test terminal causing the outputs to energize
is that jumpering pin A to pin G on the ALDL?

thanks

as far as im awar its A to B. it was on mine anyway.
DONT HAVE FREESCAN CONNECTED WHEN DOING THIS

SHOULD GIVE ONE FLASH FOLLOWED BY A PAUSE FOR A SECOND THEN TWO FLASHES. i.e: code 12

then it just repeats code 12 if all is ok
if not it will give other codes
it will only do this with the ignition on and the engine not running.

i.e:

code 31

three flashes followed by a pause then 1 flash

hope this helps.
think this is used sometimes because freescan and tech1 can sometimes miss codes.

Did you clear the codes either through Freescan or disconnecting the battery? Did you check if the 4 items are working correctly? You could have replaced the items but not have corrected the problem. The four items are rad fan relay, wastegate solenoid, canister purge solenoid, check engine light circuit.

yes disconnected battery, still get CEL.
as far as working correctly, that is why I am asking which pins to jumper on the ALDL.
but I got a little carried away and pulled the ECU and boot floor (for unrelated reasons)so I suppose I will go thru all the wire connections from the suspect devices to the ECU
with my luck, that probably wont help either
thanks

If you have Freescan, then you don't need to jump the wires. Jumping the wires simply allows the computer to display the codes via the CEL. Again, I'd be checking to make sure that each of the systems are operating.

The codes simply tell you that the system is not operating according to specifications. Like for example, the code might indicate fan relay is bad but, the relay could be fine but has no power therefore indicating the relay is bad.

So checkout the operation of each system before you go any further. Also, I would caution jumping any wires on the harness unless you know exactly which ones to jump. The computer works on lots of different voltages and ground. Sending 12 volts or grounding a wire to the wrong place and you might be replacing a computer.

Do you have the manual? If not STOP. Don't go trying to troubleshoot without one.

Good luck. Troubleshooting does take time. Be one with the car

Have you tried checking the fuses in the rear of the car where the ALDL connector is? If I remember correctly there is one of the 10A ones that controls the power supply to the wastegate and throttle jack solenoids. If the circuit is broken the check engine light will come in after 20 seconds exactly as you describe.

Hope that you solve the problem.

Have a look at Paul's efforts with Freescan and Code 26 fault tracing.

Worth noting all these relays are the same:
1, radiator fans control
2, RPM/oil pressure tell tale
3, fuel pump
4, engine overheat tell tale
5, solenoid valve changeover
6, AC control
7, AC request
8, Starter motor

So you can swap them about to fault find

Also... don't trust the 26A vs 26B to distingush what to look at.

Any code 26 you get you should check all of the items connected to the quad drivers. The ECM tries to distingush 26A from 26B by what it turned on last, this does not always match with where the error came from.

i'll take a looksee at the B side components
