Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and recently bought my first Esprit. Its a 1997 V8 in immaculate condition. The car has 14K miles and I love it. The handling is awesome and everything seems to be in great shape, except one thing. I'm only getting a little over .25 bar in boost pressure. I realize there is a limit in the first couple of gears, but I have tried 1-4 gear. The car is still quick, but I'm not getting anywhere near the power I should have. I'm hoping it isn't too serious, but I want it to work right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not too up on the V8 cars yet still learning...
but, with ony 14,000 miles... I wonder if there might be a 'limiter' in the ECM that will not allow full boost until a certain number of miles has been reached. Even so, I suppose that 14,000 should be plenty, but maybe your ECM needs to be 'told'?... I dunno know? i should not think that vacume lines etc are cracked this soon?

Hope it gets sorted... I sure other, more V8 knowledgable people will chime...

Drive topless!!!

Hi Brian,
First please check if your CEL-light (check-engine-light) works properly. Is it ON with the ignition ON and the car NOT running ? If it does not come on, then the bulb is defective - replace it !

With the engine running and the CEL not ON, please unplug the electrical connector from the wastegate-solenoid-valve. Does the CEL-come ON now ?
If it comes on after a short time then the CEL-light works correctly.

I´m telling you this, because I also had a V8 here some weeks ago with a low boost problem. First I checked if the CEL-light is ON. Everything seemed to be normal: Was not ON when the engine was running and was ON with the ignition ON and the engine not running. So I thought there were no fault code stored. When I hooked up the OBD-II reader it had A LOT of fault codes stored !!! How is this possible ? A lot of fault codes with NO CEL-light ???????
When I examined the wiring behind the dash it turned out that some very CLEVER mechanic has removed the CEL-light wire and made a connection to the oil-pressure bulb !!! People who do things like that should get sent to hell immediately !

Moral of the story: First check the proper CEL-light operation ! Then read out the fault codes ..... then search for the problem ....

The CEL was lit for a short time a few days ago. It has since gone out. Any ideas what the problem could be? I'm a newbie when it comes to the Esprit.

I have had my 97 v8 for around 3 months now & had concerns re the boost.

The boost needle seems to rest off the dial most of the time,
I thought this was due to a faulty sensor, however i'm told that the esprit runs exceptionally low boost & is actually highly de-tuned from the 550+ bhp its capable of producing & was producing when running against maclaren f1's back in the day.
My boost gauge only really flicks to 0.5 bar between gear changes, the cars run very little boost athough you just beware of that low boost when it cuts in exiting a roundabout & be ready to catch it!!

Brian,
Get an OBD-II scanner and check all the sensor-readings and the fault codes. If you donot get at least 0.5 bar max boost then there is definitely something wrong.
