Bought a well kept 89 SE and love her to bits already. Just a few issues that need attention before it's back to perfect shape. I get a code 41 and 35 intermittantly. By reading other posts it seems that it is an ignition module or a wiring problem with it. Question: How do you check it and where do I get another one?
Marc
Code 41 is the engine speed signal from the ignition module not being recieved at the ECM.
Typically a wiring problem, or the incorrect IG module.
Code 35 is an idle speed error. If the engine is at a high RPM while the car is not moving, it can throw this.
Call me stupid, but where is the Ig mod on the Esprit? If I can find that I'll trace back to the ECM.
Code 35 is gone since reset of computer.
Thanks
Directly underneath the coils...pull the coil/ign mod/bracket assembly off, then remove the coils from the ign mod...easier to take out the airbox first...

Out they come 1st thing tomorrow, thank you

If you have it off and decide to replace the coils, which sits on top of the ignition controller, MSD makes a GM twin tower replacement coil pack MSD# 8224 that looks exactly like the esprit coil pack. Since the system is GM one would think they are the same.
I have those MSD coils on my car. Perfect fit.

That MSD # is also the coil pack that fits my Saturn. And to think I was buying a Lotus. I wonder if that Lotus charge cooler and turbo will fit my Saturn (LOL)!
