Did you try www.nadaguides.com? Under 2 door coupes.
If it is the S3, which I assume in the same as a 89 non-SE, then low is $11050, average is $13250 and high is $18200. If it is an SE, the low is $13000, average is $17100 and high is $23300.

Hey sorry I didn't reply earlier, congrats. See good things come to those who wait. Good for you. Did you say its a carbed version? Same as mine?
Anyway good for you
thank you very much! I am actually not sure if it is the carbed version or not. How would I find out for sure?

Hmmm....????
Look in the engine compartment and see if you have carbs or fuel injection would be a dead give away.
Sorry about that I could not resist.
You probably have FI as they did not import carbed S body cars to the USA due to emissions requirements.
We are all very happy for you.

Calvin

hahaha I dont have the car yet! LOL and I cant remember when I last saw the engine
Thanks Calvin for the congrats! As you can probably tell by now, I dont have a clue when it comes to the intricacies of these cars, but I look forward to learning from everyone. Now I can read all about them and actially go into my garage and see it with my own eyes.
Kylie,
One can indeed tell from the VIN number if it is a USA fed car.
Apart from the noiser intake sound it is pretty hard to miss twin carbs hanging off the intake.
I think just about anyone could spot the twin carbs.
If someone could not tell the difference they should close the engine cover and slowly move away the car, being careful not to touch or disturb anything inside engine compartment. They should be content with just driving the car or we will need to give them very intense lessons about Esprit's.

Hey now! It is not carbed. I looked at the engine pics again. Clean engine though! damn near spotless actually for an 89.
100 questions wont even begin to touch on it
People keep getting me worried though when I tell them I am driving it home 800 miles. And now that I think about it, that is ALOT of miles! I hope everything goes well. Thats a LONG trip for any car.

Any questions, ask away!
800 miles ain't nothing. I did half that for mine and loved every minute of it... after a rock smashed the windshield 3 miles into the trip and after the light switch fell into my hands leaving the light on. Buit after that it was great!
Best of luck.
Relax and enjoy the trip. Eight years ago we picked our car up in Punxsutawney, PA and drove it 1200 miles to Ponca City, OK. It was a great trip.
Of course you should do a good "pre-flight" before departing (belts, hoses, tires, horn, radiator fans and check that the defrost is working).
Also be prepared for everyone staring and worse yet drifting over into you as they stare (people tend to drive where they look). In many ways the biggest challenge was getting used to the blindspot after spending 5 years in a Vette.

Rich - I read that in your Esprit story on your website about the light falling into your hands LOL I can something like that happening to me, but rather the windshield getting cracked instead. I have terrible luck with tires and windshields.
OKC - The guy I am buying it from even told me it gets annoying that people stay on his ass just enough where you cant change lanes!

i hate the drivers that cut you off on purpose, hoping you'll race them out of the next intersection. i admit i have raced a few cars because i knew they were equally matched, but i certainly wouln't waste even a glance at a modified honda. i don't care how fast modern technology can make excrement travel. more pleasant to ignore it.

Excellent all the same With the questions I might even be able to answer one or two myself. Please do ask anything though, the simple things can become quite an interesting debate on here as you know from earlier days so anything goes.

Agreed to all!!
I try not to even make eye contact with them (excrement - lol), as thats also creating the attention that they caught your eye.
But the old grey head guy in the Merc who wants a go at the lights, I am up for it with a thumbs up in return
