Are there any tricks to changing out a 88 Esprit's oil filter? Can it only be done up through the bottom of the car? Or can it be reached if the right rear tire is taken off?

On my 86, I could only get it out from underneath and it was a real pain. I imagine 88 must be similar.

Hi there, you shouldn't have to remove it from underneath? Its located down the right side of your engine. Its an easy enough reach down in there if you try. These are meant to be only hand tight, but I found mine wasnt and needed a oil filter tool to remove it. Or some people have used a screw driver and stuck it in to screw it off, however this is the rather messy way.
Best of luck.

You'll need to drain the oil by undoing the drain plug, which is underneath the car, so you'll be there anyway!

As has been said, you can reach down and remove it.
