Engine rebuild costs

Hi can people tell how much there esprit turbo engine rebuilds cost (more interested in the s3 model)

Depends what needs looking at and if you are going to do the work yourself or get someone to do it for you.

I rebuilt the engine in my 1981 S3 about 2 years ago and it wasn't cheap even though I did all the work. No major mechanical repairs or replacements were needed but it still cost best part of £1000.

It is the crank and big end bearing shells which are the killer as even for standard sized ones they are £20 for each half!!!!!

You will also suffer fro the "well, while it is in bits I may as well change that" syndrom and this can eat cash.
