I have almost a deal completed for a 99 v8. From history I cannot see any rebuild, timing belts changed at 34000 {now 50000 mls}. Can I now expect liner/coolant problems etc. when is belts due change. many thanks

Try phoning the Lotus factory, if they rebuilt the engine, they should have records.

If the engine has not been rebuilt is it almost certain that it will cause problemns [liners/coolant etc.]soon ie. next 5000 mls.

The engine may have been rebuilt already. Just because you don't have evidence doesnt mean it hasnt been done.

If it has not been done, you may still be fine. Lotus have stated that the majority (all?) of the cars that required a rebuild had had some history of excessive temps prior to the liner failure. Make sure your cooling system is tip top and you should be ok.

Even if you DO get a leak, then there are cars out there that were sorted out with Bars-Leak. Ie the fix did NOT necesitate a rebuild.
