When I drove my 91SE to work today I noticed the car "jerk" as if something was loose in the drivetrain. This happens anytime a place torque on the drivetrain by starting from a stop or accelerating from coasting. Gear selection is also getting harder and the car jumps out of 4th gear. This issue occurred without warning - the car was driving great last night. Any ideas on what to look for?

I'd also take a look at the motor/gear box mounts.

I had a shop replace the rear main seal a couple of months ago. Could they have done something to cause this problem? The clutch was only a couple of years old at that time with maybe 10K miles on it. When they replaced the rear main seal, the cultch should have been inspected right?

One would think they would check all functions of the transmission/clutch after service.

Impossible to say they could have done anything to cause this problem. Take it back to them and see what they say. Does not reslly obligate you to have any further work done at this time. Also don't jump and have a costly repair done at the drop of the hat just because they say so.
