Stearing Rack

DCan anyone tell me where the steering rack for a 1985 Esprit S3 oriniated from i.e Does it orininate from Ford/Toyota etc?

The steering racks are Lotus only. I believe that they were likely made by the same company that makes the racks for other English cars such as the Spitfire, but they are different. There are rack rebuild kits available from JAEparts.com and perhaps others.

I replaced my steering rack last year with a new one from SJ Sportacrs (circa £165+VAT+carriage) - made the steering much more direct, and there is certainly less play in the wheel ie you cannot turn the wheel side to side without making the car weave - the old rack must have been well worn, as you could turn the wheel slightly without affecting the steering.

Steering racks were a weak point on the G-cars, a new one makes a big difference IMO
