Hello,

I am interested in buying an Esprit turbo 1988 or 1990.

Can you advise me of what differences there are suspension wise, and engine wise on the later models, from what I can see of my initial studies of the car, the actual bodyshell from a car from 88 onwards looks the same as the 2002 shell, but with a different bodykit, is this correct? Also how much power can be extracted from the 4 cylinder turbo engine?

How ood is car car dynamically? It does look quite large, can the chassi handle the power? How good does an Esprit corner?

big difference from an 88 to a 90 over 50+ continuous HP and plus more tranisent hp. I think we can all tell 50+ more HP, the eagle chassis, outboard rear brakes, and revised tranny and shifter.

he Esprit can easily take the power, remember that there are version wth well over 400bhp floating about and as for how they handle, try one, they are unbeleivable. Nothing else like it mate.

I'll leave the techy stuff to the others but you're right, the basic bodyshell of the current esprit is the same as that of the '88 model. A variety of front bumpers, sills and rear wings have been used since then. Also a few different rear bumpers and wheel arch extensions on models from the Sport 300 onwards. The blank, body coloured triangles in front of the quarter lights were done away with on the same model, as were the Morris Marina door handles. Oh, and citroen CX mirrors from 1989 on.

the 88 is a re-skinned Bosch injected 86-87 HCI G car.
only the body is different.
89's are with Delco injection in the USA
89.5 are SE with chargecooler more HP (50+) bigger wheels, twin oil coolers.
90 SE's and later have a reprogramable chip.
89-89.5 need to have the whole chip replaced for upgrades.

My name is Karl Crossland from Hull, East Yorkshire, England.

I have just purchased a 1990 Lotus Esprit Turbo in September ... and ... I can honestly say that the car is sex on wheels with performance and handling better that will blow your socks off !!!

If you can find a good example ... in good mechanical condition ... for a fair price ... then >>>

Go for it ... because you only live once !!!
