Took my Esprit out for the first real road trip since I have owned the car! Well, at least the first road trip that was 90% interstate...
Saturday - West Mobile to Pensacola Fla. - so the trip total (with the driving around once there) came just over 200 miles... and the car sure needed it! Went over for a car show and as usual around here, I was the only Esprit in a sea of Porsche and Ferrari drivers.

My only travel fear was that I know the fuel pump is going out... ordered a new one, but it did not get here until Friday. I stashed it with some tools in the car a left anyway... About a mile from home on the return trip it started acting up, but I drove on home as it was not far - a bit slower than normal. Good thing! I got home and found that the pump I got was the primary and the secondary is what I needed!

Oh well, great trip! I love the pass ability this car has - and while it rides the country roads like it is on rails, I was happy to find that it ran down the interstate as well as my wife's Volvo - but faster!
I can't believe there are people who buy these cars and do not drive them!

Hey good stuff!! I have found mine to be pretty reliable so far on the big trips and loves sitting at the higher speeds rather than lower. It just seems to love it. Glad you had a good time

you're right. we should all be driving our cars more. when i bought my '84, i took it on a 1700 mile trip from kansas to california; was picking it up from the previous owner. it ran 37 hours continuously only resting for noncatastrophic repairs like headlight pods coming loose. quite impressive for a 20 year old car. when i started tinkering with the thing, i discovered the timing and carb settings had been way off. rear brakes weren't engaging either. oops! still ran like a beaut and there wasn't any noticable sign of decreased performance. coolant temperature stayed below midrange even across the desert. i'd like to take another road trip with the added confidence of knowing everything is mechanically sound. next time i'll stop to sleep. maybe this autumn.

I'd love to get a 'destination trip' planned. You know, pick a great arrival point - I had International Falls MN in mind for a mid Fall late summer trip -

Spent two weeks there for work and it has a great hotel, nice landscape to see, some local history, and some great local places to eat really good food.

Anyway, try to get some others to drive there from where ever with the idea people could meet up along the way... and everyone meeting at the end...

Maybe one day!

Bought my 93 in Seattle, and drove it cross country (about 2600 miles) to North Carolina in three days. Great trip. Car ran great.

Cameron - If you make it to IF, make sure you let the Lotus Owners Oftha North know. We have a pretty big group in the Twin Cities area. We're always ready for a few beers or dinner with visiting Lotus owners.
