Hi everyone. My 1995 Esprit S4 is in the shop having some AC work done and my mechanic noticed that the radiator fans are not turning on when the car idles.

When the car runs, it holds at 80 degrees celcius. I've noticed, on occassion, during the past six months if I idle for a little while that the temp will rise to 90 degrees celcius and I would shut the engine down. As soon as I am underway, even at low speeds, the temperature drops down.

Anyone experienced this problem and/or have any suggestions?

thx.

"They all do that, sir."

The fans should come on all the time with the AC on. With the AC off, they should only come on when the temp goes up.

Hi All,
Like Dr.Hess said, the fans should always come on when the AC is ON and the engine is running. When the AC is OFF the fans will only come on when the coolant reaches >92°C

Cheers

PS: Steve, what exactly is the problem your car has ?

Hi. The problem with the car is that the AC loses coolant in the evaporator and I've had success in the past with a kit that seals the evaporator. That's what my mechanic was installing and the temp. went up. I'm going to relay him all of this info first thing tomorrow.
