I have takenmy esprit for repair several times (4?) over the past 2.5 years to fix the check engine light. I have had air sensors replaced, new gas caps, etc.... but my check engine light never went away for more than 20 miles. I learned to live with it, but now I am considering selling and check engine light looks horrible. Car runs fine but supremely frustrated.Any advice... (Apart from calling lotus headquarters- now thatmy warranty ran out!!)

Have you taken the car to more than one shop? The reason that I am asking is because some shops are better than others. If you want to send me a private message (click on my name - it will go to the profile/private message area) I will recommend some.

Also, did they tell you what the trouble code was?

What type of gas do you use? (Believe it or not, substandard stuff can and will cause your engine light to come on).

I would make a phone call to Lotus USA. Since the problem occured while in warranty and has never been fixed, you have a good case for them fixing it. Also, Florida lemon law may apply and they may have to repurchase the car/give you a new one if it does. If you need info on the lemon law, I can get that for you as well.

Hmm, I'm not sure you can blame the car. Sounds like you need to find another, more competent, mechanic.

Thanks for the input. I agree that the problem should have been fixed by the mechanic, and that lotus should still cover the repair if it is something else. I lived in and my car is registered in New Jersey. I took my car to the only shop that was realtively convinient (it was 45 mins from my house the other other dealers in the area didn't provide loaner cars, were ever further etc.). Usually I drove away with the light off. And by the next day or two, the light was on, but I worked in NYC from 7am till 7pm and usually could go to the shop for at least another month or two. The codes always had to do with air leaks or mass airsensor etc. I just hope that its not the ecu itself, or I have to buy another ecu. If I do buy another ecu- I'd probably buy the High performance one, but don't want to increase my repair bills in the future (due to higher demands on engine). I'll call Lotus on Monday and see what they say. Also, I always hear a rattle from the front right suspension over bumps, The same shop supposedly fixed the problem, and charged for adjustments to the front suspension, but still hear the same sound. Maybe the mechanics weren't that good!! Thanks for the input.

Hi,
The CEL usually is related to one or more fault codes. Do you know what fault code numbers you are getting when the light comes on ?

Cheers

I'm in Boynton and have a scantool I use on my V8 frequently. Where is the car? I can at least read out the code for you and consult the diagnostics. Hope you're not using Shell gas.

I appreciate it... My phone number is 646-284-5122. I'm arounfd until tuesday.. I was planning on calling the dealer where I got it reapired on Monday to see what the old reading were, but would appreciate a new reading and hopefully advice on the fix. I really appreciate all the attention to my woes (which really add up to immense frustration with every second I have to stare at the bright red light on the dash esp at night when it's blaring!! agaisnt the otherwise dark dash!!). I'm stayingat a friends at 195 & 95, but I will be cruising around next few days. Let meknow ur schedule and maybe we can meet somewhere and see whats wrong with the ride. Just regret waiting until now to post!!!!!!
