What's the quickest/easist way to disable the antenna so it doesn't go up when the radio is turned on? (94 S4/Stock JVC unit)

Pull the stereo out of the dash, and take a look at the wiring on the back. You are looking for either a blue or a blue/white cable coming out of the iso connector. Dissconnect this. It will stop the antenna moving up + down altogether.

However, if you wanted to just have the antenna moving when the radio is being listened to and not when (for instance) you are listening to the cd player, unfortunately there are only a few headunits that will allow you to switch this function on/off. Mainly because the up+down antenna isn't that popular with manufacturers anymore and are mounted in rear screens etc.

I tried disabling the control wire as described on my car, and when I did the left front speaker stopped working!! (Lucas strikes again) This makes no sense, but that's what happened. What I did was:

Assume the Lotus position (upside down under the dash). Look over towards the antennae. You will see an inline fuse holder going to the antennae motor.Open it with a twisting motion and remove the fuse.

i don't recommend disabling the antennae completely. the motor will stick permanently, as did the one on my car. a tastefully placed switch would be nice. i'd have to think ages before i decided where though.
