Recommendations please - Replacement fuel tanks
Discussion
When I did mine I had them blasted and recoated in a liquid vinyl type substance in Leeds, it was quite a well known fix (northern radiators I think they were called). It protected against further corrosion. I deleted the foam pad they stood on and replaced with thick neoprene that wouldn't hold water and rot them from the base up like the foam was prone to do. They had some pin hole repairs welded in, the tanks have to be fully gas free for this or they can explode.
I have had some Axminster tanks and they are superb, but none of these aftermarket replacements will fit as well as the originals, I had to do a lot of fiddling with mounting holes, inlets and outlets etc.
My tanks were spotless on the inside and only a couple of thinned patches oon top. It would have been much better and cheaper refurbing mine in hindsight. However I do know some tanks come out looking like seives.
Also factor in the turnaround time for manufacture of the custom units mine were 3 months.
