I have a choice of getting a 12" muffler or a 16" muffler (2.5" pipe in and out, straight through design, oval) for a custom exhaust system for a 94 S4. Need some input from the exhaust experts here as to which size is more appropriate. I see most aftermarket exhaust systems sold in the UK uses a smaller muffler.

Any input is appreciated....

Straight pipes... no muffler. Between the turbo and the cat, they take most of the bite out of the exhaust.

I agree. No muffler. I had the muffler on my 1989 non-SE taken off in 2001. I was tired of having it sound like a sewing machine. Now it sounds like a real sports car with a throaty rumble at a stop light. Under power, I can still hear my tapes. Only 80 decibels at 10 feet from the rear.

And when I lift, it gives the little back fire.

Damn, I love it!
