Hi

I attended a car show this past weekend and noticed on an '86 or '87 HCI G-Esprit that it had no exhaust fan on the engine cover lid. My '83 has an exhaust fan.

I asked the gentleman but he didn't know if the car ever had one.

I didn't notice any mounting points for the fan on the engine cover. I'm assuming the carbed engines are more likely to have vapor lock issues than the HCI and that's why there is no fan. But it also seems like a good idea to have an exhaust fan to evacuate the heat when the car is shut down after a drive.

Just wondering,

Hi,

The non-carb'd 'G' cars do not have the engine bay cooling fan. This is not an exhaust fan, but an induction fan which pulls cooler ambient temperature air down over the carbs to prevent them from heat soaking and consequently vapor-locking.

If you inspect the underside of the engine bay cover, you'll discover it is channeled and in conjunction with the undertray, it works to direct the airflow over the turbo and exh. manifold and exhaust it out the left side rear wheel well.
