4 months ago my car would stall at random and not restart without
sitting 5 min. i left for 3 months and when i returned, my car started immediately. idled for 10 min, then i heard a click from the engine compartment(maybe a relay) and the car stalled. it won't start. the spark is strong and i presume the problem is fuel. i checked the fuses and replaced the fuel relays. the fuel cut-off switch is also not activated. what is the easiest way to test the fuel pumps? are they located underneath the passenger side fuel tank, above the fuel tank, or internal? also, where is the fuel filter located? any other ideas? i've always kept my car mechanically sound, but now i must do the labor myself due to job shifting.

This same problem happened to my '89. The fuel pump relay would not go in. There are three relays that need to engage in order to start the engine. The problem also started gradually. car stopped, wait a bit and it would restart. Until it would not start at all. Basically, your computer is going out. It can happen a bit at a time. My radiator fans would always come on when the computer was going out initially. For your problem I jumpered out the relay and ran it like that for about a year. Then through this site I found the replacement computer is only about $80. My timing circuit went out later so I needed a new computer box. Same chip, different box.
Hope this helps.
