Title was too long for the topic bar so here goes:

How does the Esprit stack up against against similarly priced cars? Things like the Skyline, Viper, NSX, etc. On paper, the Esprit V8 sounds just as good if not better than the aformentioned, but without driving them, it makes it impossible to make any kind of judgement. Any input?

Hi,

Each of the aforementioned cars has it's merits and demerits. But, I doubt you'll get an objective opinion here. Drive them all, buy the one you like most.

Let me see, you have a Mac users dream machine, a truck in disguise and a CRX with a bodykit. These cars you are trying to compare with a thoroughbred supercar.
It doesn't seem fair to the competition

I beleive a Mac user's dream machine would be a Prius or a VW Bus.

Let me see if I can toss in something a bit off center for an analogy...

Skyline: sort that pretty girl thats really smart - you met in the computer lab.

Viper: Really sexy on a dance pole, but you may not want to live with it past friday night...

NSX: Pretty, although a bit understated and never really gets the attention she should get. Could be a little better looking, but the other guys would be looking at your 'girl' for sure.

Porsche: any of these are great to drive, but they are a bit overpriced as these girls are out there by the dozen... kinda like pop star girls... pretty, fun, perform well... you want how much money? When you find one for the 'right price' you could really have good fun!

Esprit (any of them): Really pretty, beyond sexy - all around pretty... the other guys notice her, but start to drool after a second glance. Not understated, but not overstated either... she is however, a bit tempermental at times, but you get over that fast.

they are all classics i'd be happy with any of them!!
an as a lotus fan i'd have a v8 or even a 4pot (an hopefully one day will) jee's any esprit will do!!

but as a big fan an having read loads of articles or afforemetioned cars so here goes

the viper has awesome acceleration an thats in the company of already seriously fast cars, it actually very quick round a track too but the general consuses was it was bit to much power for the rest of the car to handle so a choice for those who crave raw power above all else

skyline very fast easy to drive fast thanks to loads of gadgets (traction, 4 wheel drive etc) an an icon with all the fastest round the ring stuff not to mention a very good racing career its easy round town to an having sat in one can confirm it looks a mighty pratical car so a wolf in saloon style clothes

Nsx was the great unloved so there great value now an can be bought for a very reasonable price. its donw to the the honda badge ppl jus cant equate it to 40k worth of supercar so it sold in small numbers as for the car well its like any other car from japan it works is very reliable an does the job very effeciently but personally were they went wrong was the styling its no more memoralbe than a toyota supra or 3000gt (supra was a good car)an these cars are as much about drama an style as anything else

An the epsrit well its got the looks, herritage, an the price tag its donw at nsx money it handles like a lotus which has always been good is fast but high maintenance i got a excel same engine minus turbo charger, an i had 4 things go wrong in the past 3 months ok there little niggly faults but you get the idea a hands on car (not saying its not reliable a well maintained car should be fairly trouble free but overall reliablity is less than all the prev mentioned cars). still be my choice when i got the cash though

the esprit is an unreliable girl, but she's the one you end up underneath every weekend.

the difficulties are precisely why the esprit is my vehicle of choice. very few are capable of taming one; and you're forced to apply all you've ever learned in life to just skirt disaster.

Yeah its an esprit all day long init!!

any esprit owners would admit that when ever its parked & locked you just have to keep turning round as you walk away just to have another peek at the beast as it waits for you to fall into it for another drive!
& as the the other fella said, she is a naughty girl & thats why we all want a taste!
