Hi Everyone, I picked up my yesterday and noticed a virbation coming under the car under the centre console area at engine speeds between 2800-3000rpm. Noise/Vibration is gone when engine speed is out of this range. Sounds like a heatsheild vibrating but not sure....any ideas?

Thanks,

Erik

Does it appear to be inside or outside of the car?

I would like to first apologize for the multiple posts, there seems to be some glitch in my posting process.

The noice appear to come from outside (underneath) the car. I'm suspecting it's the exhaust system....

As for the multiple posts, if you are the author of the post just open the post and click on delete.

As for the noise, this is one area where it would be nice to hear it as I am familiar with a lot sounds an Esprit can make. Just one of those annoying things trying to help via long distance.

Under the center console area the metal brake line clipc can fall off and make a rattling sound given the right harmonics from the engine. Or it could be as simple as coins or objects in the compartment under the shift pad. (I have been known to throw coins in this compartment as a joke to cause a rattle.) Coolant lines run in the center tunnel and if a bolt or washer is in there it can also cause noise.

Make sure belts in front of the engine is tensioned correctly as they may scrafe or hit things in the close quaters of the compartment. Make sure heat sheilds in the engine compartment are secure, all lines and cables secured, and all bolts in the bottom engine cover is secure. My cat matrix broke down and the metal retainer can make an annoying rattle around that RPM that many mistake for a loose baffle in the muffler. Most of time it is not the muffler but the cat. I have seen a few people replace the muffler when it was the cat. I just rammed the cat matrix out and with a pry bar to remove the obroken ffending spot welded retaining ring out. Damm ring had broken a tiny spot weld and vibrating inside the cat housing.

I was a fanatic about chasing down annoying sounds from my SE.

Good Luck,
Calvin
