Gearbox upgrade
Discussion
Hi,
IMHO if you run a nearly stock 4-Cyl. engine (265-300HP) and you treat it really well you should be fine with the standard/stock gearbox. If you plan to do frequent track days you might think about upgrading ...
The standard box actually is a weak link (2nd gear, 5th-gear/overhang and the synchros) but if you treat it well you should get no problems with standard engine power and "normal" driving. Please ensure that you do proper, frequent service:
- renew gearbox oil at least every two years with Castrol TAF-X
- lubricate and readjust the gear selector mechanism and linkages every year.
- dont shift too fast, please let the synchros do their work
Cheers

I have to admit I DON'T drive like an old lady but DO take care with the shifting. It has taken practice to perfect it though and DOES detract from the enjoyment of the car, especially when the gear selector rod ends are worn and exposed to road grime and engine heat...
That should be fixed next week though. Can't wait.
Now I have to save for an ATB from Quaife.
