Hi Members,

I was looking at a potential S4 purchase today and during a cold start up the check engine light is on during the initial high-idle >2000rpm. After 2 minutes the idle dropped to normal speed and check engine light is gone. I realize the high idle start up is normal. My question is whether the check engine light is normal? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Erik

Check engine light should only turn on for a second when you start the car, then it goes out.

If the light is on then there is a code stored, it can be read with Freescan and a laptop.

The S4 should not idle at 2,000RPM even when cold. That is too high.

In the cold it will and then kick down, just like he said. The ECM raises the RPMs for about 2 minutes on cold start up via the Throttle jack Capsule.

Hi,
Please readjust the throttle jack (only that, dont touch the mimimum air rate screw !!!) to lower the elevated idle to around 1800rpm (or even lower)

Cheers

This is correct it should high idle than shut down to normal idle after the EBPV opens up

Oh forgot to mention try reseting the computer as sometimes if you switch fuels back and forth it can confuse it a bit.
