Best tires for Esprit V8
Discussion
I'm gonna need to replace the tires soon. It currently has Michelin MXXXs on it. When I bought the car the rear tires had about 30% wear on them. I have been looking around and the Michelins are the highest price tires out there for it. Just wanted to see if anyone has another brand that does well for them
Thanks

On my performance cars I have had Bridgestone PP SO3 (not as great as I expected in dry), Michelin MXX3 (poor rain performance), Dunlop 9000 (terrible when cold and not too hot in rain), Bridgestone RE700 (soft, squirmy sidewalls) and Kumho 712. Of the bunch, believe it or not, I liked the 712s the best. When I go for new tires on my Esprit, though, I will likely try either Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or BFG T/A KDW2 based on the good things said by friends and colleagues as well as the writeups on the various forums and at TireRack.
I have tried the Pirelli Pzero Rosso's and thought they were great in the rain (when they still had a good ammount of tread) and awsome in the dry. They only lasted 6000miles on the rear of my 89SE with V8 wheels though. I had an alignment when they were put on and treadwear was even across both tires.
Next time I will try the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 which are about the same price as the Pirelli's

Well...
I just got a new pair of Michelin pilot sports for the front (now the front and backs have matching treads). I still had 70% of tread on the front but they had just dried up. My mechanic says that most Michelins die of old age rather than bad tread unless you abuse them. I will probably stay with the brand, but I have a while to make up my mind.
That being said, I heard good things about the goodyears this past weekend from a very trustworthy source (JK1)...

I went with the Toyo Proxes T1-S, not only because of Greezmunky's comment, but went on a forum for tire reviews and I read only positive comments from people who actually have them. Fist and formost nearly everybody said the grip was outstanding and wear was good, which in my opinion takes priority. So I'll give them a try. I'll post the results after a week or two of using them. Either I'll say these are the best tires I've ever owned or I'll have some tires to sell.

I've heard about the road noise, some people say they have had it through the life of tires, some it goes away at 1K, and others say it's minimal or non existent. I guess I'll have to wait and see. The Michelin Pilot Sport was my original choice and most people say they squeal when cornering and there is road noise and not so great in the wet.I do feel guilty putting these tires on instead of the Michelin's. The the car is a true exotic and deserves the best, and I've always considered Michelin in that category. But there are other things I would like to do to the car (ECU upgrade, Exhaust, etc...) and going this route I did save about $400.
