Hey All!

I installed the new 2003 - 2004 tail lights for my 1997 Esprit. I noticed that the reverse/ back-up light do not illuminate when the car is shifted into reverse. I also installed a Pioneer AVIC-N1 Navigation System that requires tapping into the back-up lights in order to accurately track the vehicle. The stereo shop needs to know where the reverse/ back-up switch is located. Can you guys send me a schematic or diagram with its location? I appreciate all your help.

It's mounted on the right hand side of the gearbox about halfway up, it's the only electrical connector mounted to the box so should be easy to identify.

It's quite exposed to the elements so is probably corroded/loose.

So I can access it from the inside of the car? I saw a connector that was just hanging there when I changed the stick shift knob, but I could not figure out what it was for. Do you have a pic or a diagram to send me so that I know we're on the same page? I appreciate your help.

It's on the box itself {not the gear stick} you can get at it from inside the car but you'll have to take the boot floor out if you wish to, however it's pretty accesible from underneath.

Here a pic that may help;

A pretty typical picture of my Lotus, i.e. boot lid open and boot floor removed lol

You cannot actually see it in that picture as it's a bit low to be shown, but the arrow points to it's rough location.

I also updated the rear lights on my '99 Esprit and have not been able to get the back-up lights working. I hate to run a new wire all the way from the switch on the transmission, but is it needed to correct the situation??

Great question Jeff!

Does anyone know if this a problem that is inherent with the conversion? The back-up lights were working fine before I did the conversion.
