Hi,

My MY00 v8's gone a bit sick

{I told you they're out to get me!}

It's diffulcult to explain exactly what's up, but you cant give her any stick at all, if you try to put your foot down she just goes uuuurrrrgh {a bit like she's sort of sat on the rev limiter}. If I drive around with very light throttle and not letting her rev too high she mostly drives fine, but does feel a bit hesitanty.

Also when she idles she doesn't sound right, from one of the tail pipes she keeps giving little pops, whereas the other is smooth and fine.

This may or may not be important, but when she's cold she's a lot better. Certainly idles better and drives a lot better, although at higher RPM and WOT she still don't feel so happy.

============

On the Yahoo groups it's been suggested that one of my cats may have crumbled and got blocked, I took both cats off and neither rattle and I couldn't get anything out of either, so I don't think it's that.

I have Freescan and tonight I'm gonna hook that up to see if it sheds any light on my probs, I'm particularly interested in Lambda readings on both banks.

============

Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm thinking mayb one of the coil packs, or one of the Lambda sensors - do either of these suddenly fail?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

GKP

It might be worth taking the spark plug covers off and have a poke around in there. The recesses can fill with rainwater causing all kinds off issues with corroding spark plugs and shorting out plug leads etc.

I don't think it's that. It suddenly went the day before yesterday after she'd been given some stick {personally I think she's protesting }

Though I will check as I did have all that out a few weeks ago - you never know.

Freescan only works on 4 cyclinder models, not V8s, so you're out of luck with that route.

Ok, I've also got ScanTool which I have tried before. And also DigiMoto which I'm sure I read on LEW works with the v8, but this used to keep get stuck partway through comms during startup.

I wrote my own for the Impreza, so mayb I'll end up going down that road

Those things may well work with a V8 but I can assure you that FreeScan ( written by Andy Whittaker to run on a PC with a suitable serial adapter ) does not. No one has yet come up with a PC app for the V8 as far as I know. I'd be half tempted to have a go myself in something like VB.net . FS is written in VC++ and the source code is available for download if you fancy converting it !
