CHARGE COOLER EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND CAT REQUIRED
Discussion
The exhaust manifold CAN be removed with the head still on the engine. It is "cruel and unusual" work to undo the tiny/hidden 12mm and 13 mm nuts (in my case half the studs came out with the nuts) from the manifold. Abundant -much too much?- cursing and strange arm/body contortions, etc. are required.
I replaced all studs with far stronger stainless steel examples. The nuts were upgraded to Fuji-lock versions. They have a triple spring "barb" that resists thermal unscrewing and are only nearly 10 times the price.
Also the tilting of the block (via loosening of the engine mounts) was required in my case . . . but perhaps you will be more lucky.
