I'm sure many of you have read my other posts on my recent clutch probs. Anyway, the new clutch is all fitted.

In many respects it's loads better, certianly engaging reverse is now as it would be in a 'normal' car, ie just stick it in reverse without having to piss about with going into 1st first etc.

But 2nd is still strange.

My trouble is, I really haven't had a chance to put any miles on it. Within about 10 miles or so of fitting the new clutch I caught a rock sticking out at the side of the road and gashed one of my rears - someone's picking on me, me finks

Sometimes it's fine, but other times it just isnt 'there'. It's really difficult to describe, but it feels 'gated'. A bit like the reverse gate there stopping you from sticking it in 2nd. It never crunches.

I've adjusted the cables as per the manual.

I will try bleeding the clutch again, as I aint totally sure where I got to with that.

I'm just after a bit of input really. Is this most likely to be a synchro prob or something else?

The 1-2 shift is also affected by the reverse lockout mechanism. This is an aluminum bar thing under the shifter boot. There is a plastic button on the shift lever and that is what you lift over the aluminum bar to let the lever move over to the left more and it get into reverse. The button wears out eventually (or fairly regularly, apparently) leaving just the screw head part which then gouges a channel in the aluminum bar thing with your 1-2 shifts. You could be feeling that. Just a thought.

As Hess said about the reverse lockout mechanism.
Here take a look at my web page about that problem. It used to keep be from getting into 2nd on the track when I pulled toward myself a little too hard.

Spot on diagnosis guys!!!

I sat in her without the engine running and found it difficult to find 2nd, popped the reverse inhibitor up and what do you know? In she pops

I've moved the inhibitor block about halfway through it's adjustment and all now feels well. I haven't yet road tested the car as she's out there with her ass in the air and rear wheels off still waiting for a pair of tyres {that were meant to come yesterday }

===============

You know everyone says;

Some bloke with more sense than me said:
Try as many Esprit's as you can, don't just buy the first one you see .....

Well, umm, err

And there comes a point when you start to think, what have I bought. But I'm now most of the way through the troubles with her and 2nd gear now represents the last of the major probs.

Just gotta sort all the other silly little niggles ...
