This is a sketch of the new Esprit, from this weeks Autocar. It's to be made in Malaysia!

Did Chris Bangle leave BMW? That looks terrible. Even worse than that Gallardo clone a few months back.

the front end has similar lines to the fiat barchetta!

These things never turn out the way the sketches 'predict'

Totally agree. Don't like it and preferred the original Autocar sketches, even though they were based on the Gallardo. It looks a bit like a weird Enzo IMO.
It's also a big mistake Lotus making it in Malaysia. It won't have the perceived value and there are sure to be quality issues too.

So would it be considered an imported car in the UK?

Not sure about the quality would suffer as the past Esprit had some quality issues to begin with anyways. It might be an improvement if it were made in Asia.

But I agree that some of the aura of owning a British sports car would be lost.

I wonder what the price would be?

Is a Noble less British because it is fabbed in South Africa?

Is a BMW or Mercedes less "German" if it is made in North Carolina or Alabama?

Is a Hyundai less of a sh!tbox if it is made in the States? (sorry - that one slipped out)

contemplate...

...thers's a cache to being able to blame quality issues on builders getting pissed at lunch and then returning to work. I say keep production in England!

Mid 80s Corvette Front End and Lamborghini Back End...

Is it possible that the guy that did the checker plate console and snake head shifter in that Esprit is now working as a designer for Lotus?

First Giugaro...then Stevens...and now Billy Joe Bob?

Wanna Bet that theres a Skid Plate and Winch hidden in the Front Bumper?
