Not so sharp brakes on my 97 GT3
Discussion
I'm not overly happy with the brakes on my GT3. The pedal has to be pushed down real hard to stop the car quickly. It has a lot of resistance! It then doesn't slow the car as fast as I'd like it. (My mk2 16v golf stops twice as fast.)
Also on 4 occasions the brakes have been applied sharply and then it suddenly feels like they let go and the car isn't slowing anymore. (A bit scary)
It's done 36000 miles, standard discs (a bit worn?), new standard lotus pads and Brembo calipers. The ABS seems ok, but my lotus mech is about to service the car. Any ideas?
Can anyone recommend a good set of drilled discs and compatable pads?

i've got moto-concept (tarox) cross drilled discs front and rear. I'm also using Porterfield carbon/kevlar race pads all round. My V8-GT has the same brakes as your GT3 i.e. brembos.
Disks i got from:
www.moto-concept.de/de/autos/lotus/esprit/artikel_esprit.php?item_sgrp_nr=Bremsen-Tuning&item_grp_nr=Esprit
Moto-concept also do upgraded pads but i've not had any experience of these.
Porterfield Pads - try Les Twigg (CARS):
www.cars.u-net.com/lotus/esprit.htm
Les's company also does various other interesting performace mods for esprits.. K&N filters, cat replacement pipes etc.
I've found this is better than the standard setup, and less prone to fade. Costs of this mod was actually LESS than replacing with the std discs and pads from lotus. If you REALLY want better brakes, then you could probably fit AP's as per the 2000-on spec V8. These are however very expensive and i'm not sure they'd fit inside your standard wheels, you may have to upgrade to v8 style wheels too.
Hope that helps.

What you describe re: the brakes letting go is quite normal. My GT3 does just that if you stand on them and go over some lose/uneven surface. It feels like the pedal has been pushed through the floor. It's a bit scary !!!
But, having said that, I've stood on them on a good road and it stops on a sixpence, and once, when some tw*t pulled out on me I had the brakes full on and steered round them and I'm sure I'd had hit them had it not been for the ABS
