I was going to post the same thing, but I think Marcus is the only source. ...and Marcus is GREAT. No knock on Marcus, but it's just that the exchnage rates drive the price up to like $1700 (w/shipping) and that's insane!

Yeah, I have ordered from Marcus before and had great service. The exchange rate is a problem as well as the possibility of having to pay customs on it.

I saw one in Sanj's Esprit
Sanjaya Vatuk he can be reached at:
turboesprit@earthlink.net

I think he is a distributor for Marcus in the USA.

I'm not in habit of posting other peoples e-mail address on a public forum but since he has listed it on his web site I'm sure it is alright.

Lot's of good Esprit info here folks

You might also consider contacting Claudius ( www.lotuspbc.com/). He can fabricate just about everything and is shipping out my intercoolers this week.
Great guy, give him a call.

Stay well,
Paul

We are Spearco dealer, and we have been considering making up an over sized unit. However the cost would be around $1000 US.
If there is enough interest we could do a few of them up.

I think $1000 US is reasonable for an upgraded unit. I'd be interested.

Find a shop that builds intercoolers for GN's and imports. The core isn't a problem, just having it plumbed and the end tanks welded. You'd be suprised how cheap it is.

On that note, how big is the stock chargecooler core? What is it's flow rate and at what pressure drop?

Has anyone looked at the newer style coolers that mercedes and gm are using in their turbo/supercharged models? These use cooling "fins" rather than the "wet intercooler" design that lotus uses. Supposedly much more efficient and much more compact as these are usually sandwiched between the intake manifold and the head. On the other end of the spectrum, there are some honda guys making the equivalent of a chargecooler from old saab cores and a few sheets of aluminum. Would probably take alot of trial and error to come up with something more efficient then whats already there but it would make an interesting project.

...great for front engine cars where the core is close to the intake, but in a mid-engine configuration the plumbing from front to back would render it useless, I think. This is why Lotus uses air/water/air intercooling. This minimizes the distance the charge has to travel to be cooled.

Hey John, I would definatly be interested in a unit for $1000. Put me on the list. I will buy as soon as you have it ready (along with a turbo upgrade as well). As for the other dealer mentioned, I would not consider purchasing anything from them. Just check my recent thread about a "chip/boost" discussion. Sanj, where did you get your chargecooler?

There was some interesting chat on intercoolers over in the Noble section. Much discussion on how to get air across the core in a mid engine set up. Towards the end of the thread it's not only the intercoolers that get over heated...

Anyone have the size of the stock core? I've used a 4.5x10x4.5 (I think that was the overall core size) spearco unit before on another project. The core was ~300$, and welding of the end tanks and inlet/outlet bungs was only ~150$ in labor and 30$ for the aluminum materials.

The 4.5x10x4.5 core flows 450cfm (I think), which is ~31lbs/min...which is right where the sweetspot should be for an upgraded T3 hybrid turbo.

Spearco also sells an already built unit for 600$ using that core, but you would have to modify the mounting points. Might have to weld an elbow on for the intake manifold inlet section from the cooler outlet.

Well.. the stock unit is about 4.5 x 4.5 x 10, so an upgrade would need to be larger.
Spearco does have a similar sized as the stock one for around $600, but we need double the size, with custom end tanks, a bung for the MAT sensor and special brackets.

$600 + $300 for another core + custom end tanks + brackets
I could mock one up and run some numbers...

Sanj has one of Marcus's and I also have one of his. The unit is an EXCELLECT piece, the workmanship is fantastic.

Marcus: Looks like there might be people interested in a "group purchase" any chance of some better pricing ?

At 1200 Euros the cost to us Americans is $1611 with out shipping, and about $1700 w/ shipping.

If John could make and sell units for $1000, lets say, Marcus would have sell his units at only 750 euros, a 63% discount (!), to match that price.

...just something to think about.

Luke.
