How do I start doing this task?
Air filter first, Chip upgrade? exhaust?
Being surfing thru moto concept and there are some cool stuff there, but is not like a step by step thing.
Could you guys impress me with your knowladge?

The goal?
300-380 bhp, it depends on the $$$ and the potencial damage to the engine could result.

Greetings

Also have an 89SE which I'm aiming for 350Hp. Filters- nothing fancy- clean is good. Want more power- all comes down to ONE thing- BOOST. All the chip does is alter max boost/timing/fueling to match.

The number 1 limiting factor for increased boost is TEMPERATURE. This is both inlet temp (increases when compressor wheel asked to increase boost significantly) and exhaust temperature (actually exhaust valve temp- restrictive turbine wheel prevents exhaust valves from cooling sufficiently, despite being sodium filled)- In short- want more boost- get a bigger turbo as well as the chip...

I'm buying (currently finalising specs) a hybrid Garret ball bearing turbo (t3 turbine housing; t-28 compressor housing/bearing section; T04s compressor wheel). Oh yeah- got a 3" straight through exhaust with high flow cat)

oops one more thing in answer... damage to turbo engines is generally due to increased temperature and the ensuing detonation... so a COOL charge is VERY important (hence bigger turbo). This is why the SE onwards has a chargecooler.... but it can't work miracles...

You will find it helpfull to re-jet the injectors to match the increase in turbo boost, don't forget the ususal formula of 4 lbs. of fuel pressure for every lb. of boost. So you may need larger capacity fuel pump to optimize the set up it the requiremnets exceed the stock pump. Other than that the main difference between our engines and the Sport 300/S4s is larger valves/inlets is the stronger clutch. To upgrade to the S4s clutch it is nessecary to change the master and possibly the the slave as the travel is a little more than the SE set up. Possible damage and accerated wear is a driver thing. Drive wisely and use escalating power when racing if that is what you do. No sense putting your car at risk using the full potential against a somewhat less capeable car by blowing the doors off a rice burner. Beating them is enough without totally putting them to shame. We already know we can do that.

Thanks all for the replies, and using your post as advice I will stay in the 300 bhp, it's too messy and risky to go beyond that.

Thanks
