I installed a new Throttle Position Sensor from AutoZone and it corrected MANY problems in my '90SE, including limited boost (was only getting .5 bar max, now getting full boost), automatic slowing/increasing speed while attempting to travel at a steady speed down the highway, check engine light and ECM log entries indicating TPS Low Voltage. The new TPS corrected these error codes: 22, 23, 34, and 35. The car is idleing properly now as well. Do NOT forget to reset your ECM after installing the new TPS. The part cost only $17.99, made by Wells, Part number TPS112 (same as used in a '90 Beretta). Note that your car my die as soon as it is started if not positioned properly, just rotate it a little (clockwise if I remember) and you should see your car idle at a textbook 900 RPMs once warmed up. I hope this helps anywone having any of the above problems.

Hey Calvin,
I would like to go, but I am not quite "finished" with my car. I still have a lot of things I want to do: front end spoiler, new shocks/brake pads/rotors, new SS brake lines, new SS exhaust, and Blow Off Valve. I also want to work on improving the interior and exterior. I am putting in blue LED dash lights this week. I hope to have it "ready" by next year, but who ever has their Esprit "ready"? I still have a fuel smell that makes long trips difficult (I think I have this one figured out).

Other than that, my car is running very well and pulling very strong. It seems to have endless acceleration now. The new TPS made a MAJOR difference in the feel of the car and only took about 10 minutes to install and adjust. I absolutely love driving this car. As I improve components, I can feel differences in the way the car responds. I am really having a great time with this. Who needs a mechanic? I have never worked on a car in my life until the Lotus, I find it easy to work on so far.

It has been 10 or more years since the LOG has been to mid west. So a lot of people will be there that otherwise will not make it. We don't care if your car is a show car or not. It is the fellowship of owners and the love of the cars that only another owner understands that draw us together for the LOG. You know the dash lights are only colored err...how do I describe them. Like little colored condoms that fit over the bulbs. I have seen lighting gel used on them to change color. Many people can give you a lot of hints and parts sources at these things. Great job on the car. Keep up the good work.

Oh forgot to mention, I can get a good deal on a Stainless steel muffler for our cars. $500 custom made to bolt right in with the proper mounting points like stock. The muffler was designed and built by fellow SE owner Neil Mickelwright Vice president of operations for Players / Forsythe Racing Team Ltd. in CART racing. He did not find a muffler to his liking so had it fabricated to his specifications. He is willing to sell it to us for half the going rate. Everyone else wants 700-1000+ for the mufflers. I am going to get one as soon as my muffler needs to be replaced. From other owners it is awesome with a sound to die for. To all other owner it will only fit the SE/S4/S4s models only. Oh the European models too. GT3 I like they are called. I think he is from Ohio so no tax to other states. We are fortunate that we have no interstate tax. That VAT I have been seeing on this site sounds nasty. I wonder how they calculate that? All I know is when I order from the UK and ship it here they wave the VAT. Ryan what sort of gas do you use. I have been using this non-ox gas that my car likes but it is getting spendy at $1.56/gal. as opposed to the normal premium at $1.45/gal.

Calvin,

I would be interested in obtaining this muffler for my 93 SE. How do I get in touch with this fella?

Skerd has the right person alright and address. He is a frequent poster to the USA based Turbo Esprit list. Skerd are you a wrencher? This forum is a nice break as the list seems to be going more V8 and we have a lot less fluff on this site.

I just got Neils' exhaust yesterday. I cannot wait to hear/feel the difference! I wish I was a better
wrencher. But.........about three years ago two people tried to kill me
with baseball bats and my hands got
demolished. Nine hand surgeons later
and my hands are good enough for
"normal" things, but wrenching is not
one of them. I will give you full details on the
exhaust. The weatherman just said
rain for the next 5 days.

Neil is such a good guy to make this exhaust available to us. It is indeed rare that someone involved in professional motor sports would fabricate a part that we have access to at a reasonable cost. We are lucky to have him as a fellow SE owner. If any one could make a nice exhaust it would be his fabricators. I don't know how many more are available as he made the original for himself after tweaking it to his liking and then are selling a few to defray R&D costs.

Calvin,
JAE just hooked me up with this exhaust, same price, it has not arrived yet, I guess Neil is still working on them. I can't wait to get it. I am still searching for a new front end, I lost the contact info you gave me so if you know anyone who has a '90 front end for sale, please let me know again. Mine if from a 88/89, probably had some front damage in the past and has been replaced. The past few days have been great, I have finally got a chance to see what an Esprit is really like.
Thanks,
Ryan

Unfortuntely Guy Theriens has sold the front lower valence you require. Now you will have to wait till another becomes available. I must strongly advise that if you see a used one to make the move quickly as you can as these used are very rare. Becasue they are low to the ground, any off road excursions and they are the first thing to get damaged. I see much more rear sections for sale than the fronts. If you are in a hurry you can also get one for SJ sports cars, they are unpainted and new from molds. You need them as the oil cooler needs those vents, cool oil is really important on a turbo car. perhaps the reason your car has the 88-89 valence is because the SE type was not available. You can buy the SE part and sell the 88 on ebay or some classified.
