Hi kids... My rear quarter window trim panels are missing. I'm thinking about making some new ones and would like a brief discription of them... what are they made off???, carpeted???, are they just triangle shaped pieces or does the bottom edge run all the way to the cabin bulkhead??? A pic would be great. Thanks guys

Dave

I'm not sure which ones you mean, the panels covering the top of the fuel tanks spring to mind? But I cant really imagine it's thouse!!

If you can be more specific I can provide you with any photos / dimensions you need.

Gareth..Good to hear from you again. The panels I'm refering to I believe are covered with carpet. They cover the openings above the engine bay. You would have to remove them to look out the rear quarter windows. It would be the first panel you would remove to gain access to the computer and the top of the gas tank. Hope my discription is understandable. Thanks Gareth

Hi Dave.

Yes, your description was fine! I was just surprized they are missing! Anyway, do you want me to mail some photos to you?

Gareth

P.S. I tried your previous e-mail but no luck, mail me your current address and I can send.

I love a challenge and am pretty good at fabricating, but I would never attempt to build one of those covers.

Even if they are original Lotus, they are one of those pieces that you have to play around with and kind of force into position.

You could build it perfectly to the factory specs and not even know it because it doesn't appear to fit properly at the time of install.

I would urge you to get your hands on some spares instead.

Here is a picture of the two panels removed from my Esprit. They are the two carpeted grey trangular looking things at the bottom of the image.

here is a higher res picture from my website.

They are fiberglass, painted a sparkly grey, and the flat part has carpet.

Deecee...From pics I've seen they appear to be triangle shaped covers with carpet covering them . Seems like a flat piece fiberglass or plastic, cut to shape and covered with carpet would do the trick. Am I missing something here??? I wonder if they can be purchased at the usual sources? Any Ideas would be welcome. Thanks

Trust Me...the pictures are deceiving.

I don't imagine that there would be any difficulty in finding them from the regular sources.

Once you have them and go to do the install, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the info, guys. I wouldn't even try to fabricate those. I thought they were much simpler. I try Sports car world.
