Hi, I found the Esprit fact file recently and I must say it's great. The Esprit is one of the best looking (and from what I can tell reading through the forums and the site) and best driving cars in the world.

However, I keep reading that the Renault gearbox is the "weak" link in the chain. I'm very interested in getting an Esprit, and was wondering if replacing the gearbox is a feasible idea? I only ask because I know very little about this kind of thing. I know more than the average guy about cars, but I think I'd be nervous changing the oil on my Esprit, let alone changing out the gearbox, even if I was having someone else do it!

Someone makes a dog box to replace the RN1. Bring your BIG check book, as in around 10K or more. There are some other mods too, like the one piece input shaft that are supposed to help.

The transmission isn't that weak. Just be careful with it. It is not set up for drag racing.

If you want one, buy one. Don't let the transmission put you off.
