I just drove an S4 for the first time last weekend and I am truly hooked. I have also driven a V8 in the past but I've decided to look for an S4S. Other than Ebay, where can I find a clean, well-maintained S4S? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area but I am willing to go out of the state for the right car.

The S4s is not the most rare, and it is debatable whether it is the most desirable...

The X180-R is the only (real) special edition brought to the US, only 20 were made. In fact it is the only Esprit turbo with a different Lotus Type #. All Turbo Esprits, early 80's through the 2004 V8 are "Type 82". The X180-R is a "Type 105 & Type 106" for the race car and street car. It is street legal, and differs from the Esprit SE greatly. The Sport 350 is more rare, only 8 in the US, but really isn't very different than the other V8's.

Sorry, had to argue. The S4s is nice, but the X180-R is more desirable for some.

I doubt loti will ever bring the kind of money that current vintage muscle is. Euro cars have been on the decline. Production numbers for the lotus esprit is low, but there isn't anything "special" about them. Other than the rare factory race cars (like stated above), these are just production cars with a *TINY* market. Even new, the number of lotus potential owners is 1/100000th the Ferrari/lambo crowd

I'd venture a nice S4s in the high 30s - mid 40's range.

i wouldve said there was no market for high endold buick station wagons and that fcars were gold in 1989 but things change. Brittish cars 'can' hold thier value far better to thier italian cousins...things change and the s4s is sweet!!!! not like a classic...

it is a classic!

Check the new GT4 racing game commercials. The Gbody espritis the star of the first half then the sport350 stars in the second half. Total bow down to Colin Chapman

S4s' in excellent condition are hard to find because people want to hang on to them.
I sold one of mine (the black one) for $25k above my asking price! I had people from all over the world putting bids on it, and then a guy from the other side of the country came over and threw the money on my table, one day before I had another guy come all the way from the UK to buy it.
This one that I sold was a '96 euro spec car (only 30 built).

The yellow one that I have left is a '96 too and probably the best S4s in the world right now and I will never depart with it.

I have to agree. Someone would have to either:
1) Offer me an obnoxious amount of money to part with it (hey, everyone has their price!), or
2) Catch me on a day where she's thoroughly peeved me off!

But even with my recent emissions woes, which are still in progress as I type, I still wouldn't let her go.

If someone actually wants to sell a car, it's worth what the market (that is - those actually writing checks) says it is, not what you want it to be.
