may be a bit slow here but does the engine in the esprit have to be removed out of the boot or can it be dropped through the chassie??? ( 4 cylinder )
can the engine only be removed or does the clutch and gearbox have to come as well??
Would appreciate the help as I am still waiting for my workshop manual to arrieve

Alas, you can not drop the engine out the bottom. It must be removed from topside. The service notes state that you remove the engine and transaxle as a single unit, at least for the V8, by hoisting out the top, once you disconnect the world. I would imagine other models would be the same.

It depends on the model Esprit. On the earlier models, the cross-member is not removable. On those, you need to jack the car up, disconnect the tranny and lower out the bottom. Then you can get the engine out through the top. It sounds more difficult than it really is. You need at least two jack stands, an engine hoist and a hydraulic jack (not only to jack the car up but also to lower the tranny once the car is up on jack stands.)
