Oil & water lines @ turbo (90SE)
Discussion
Hey folks....looking for a little more detail than the archives can provide regarding turbo removal.
Plan on removing the turbo from my 90SE this weekend, and am looking for any hints as to minimize fluid loss in the process. All of the hardware was soaked well with penetrating oil last night already. Talked with T.E.C today, and will have them rebuild it with a couple of upgrades to better match the 1.25bar chip.
I'd rather not have an enormous mess in my garage, but can handle a little clean-up of course. My incomplete workshop manual (grrrr.. thanks again JAE) is, as expected, no help at all.
I have all of the basics covered for prepping for removal, and I'd just like to do this as cleanly as possible. For those that have done it at home....What process/sequence did you approach the oil/coolant lines with? Removal of any of the lines immediatley creates an open, low spot in the system, and hello 'uber-mess'. Clamping off the coolant hoses is an option I guess, but what to do about the oil lines?
Or, should I just 'suck it up', and worry about the mess when I'm done.
Thanks,
Craig

Hey Craig,
The oil lines won't be bad at all, they drain pretty well when the engine stops.
The coolant will come out though, I can't remember how much. Put a couple of those quick clamps on the coolant hoses before removing them.

Thanks Travis-
You were right, almost no oil came out, and I plugged the coolant lines right away... no big deal.
HOWEVER!...How the H*%l do you get the passenger side front nut off of the turbine to manifold flange? I have the boot out, and the heatshields out, and I still can barely see it, much less get to the lock-tab, or the nut itself. I removed the pass side rear nut (no biggie), and loosened both the driver side nuts (waiting to lift the turbo slightly in order to completely remove them).
So close, yet so far away! ;^)
