Exhaust manifold

can anyone help with some tips for removing a cracked exhaust manifold ?
The nuts look particulaly rusty,burnt ,rounded
I was wondering if anyone has tried cutting the nuts off with a small air tool and tungstan burr( dremal etc)with engine still in place
is it more practical to remove the head or remove the whole engine to aid the removal of the manifold if there are any sheared studs etc.?
Any feed back greatly appreciated
